I&#8217;ve created a public Canvas course for sharing my Canavs-friendly javascript widgets.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/dynamic-content\/become-a-javascript-wizard-in-canvas-https-is-the-key\/\">Become a Javascript Wizard: HTTPS is the key<\/a>. You can use the power of HTTPS to display javascript content in Canvas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Grading with Canvas<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/grading\/the-tyranny-of-the-percentage-part-1\/\">The Tyranny of the Percentage: Part 1<\/a><\/strong>. In which I learn that I cannot assign letter grades at semester&#8217;s end based on my students&#8217; total points.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/grading\/the-tyranny-of-the-percentage-part-2\/\">The Tyranny of the Percentage: Part 2<\/a><\/strong>. In which I research past feature requests related to serious limitations in the Canvas Gradebook.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/grading\/the-tyranny-of-the-percentage-part-3\/\">The Tyranny of the Percentage: Part 3<\/a><\/strong>. In which I vent my frustration with numeric-based grading, the only kind that Canvas supports.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/grading\/feature-request-text-fields-in-gradebook\/\">Feature Request: Text Fields in Gradebook<\/a><\/strong>. In which I make a Feature Request, only to learn the Feature Request process has been put on hold.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/grading\/points-based-grading-cumulative-not-punitive\/\">Points-Based Grading: Cumulative, Not Punitive<\/a>. My philosophy of grading is driven by student choice and forward progress.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/grading\/points-based-grading-student-gradebook-declarations\/\">Points-Based Grading: Student Gradebook Declarations<\/a>. Students record their work in the Canvas Gradebook on their own by means of &#8220;Declarations.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/content-development\/canvas-hack-repeated-quiz-content\/\">Canvas Hack: Repeated Quiz Content<\/a>. For recurring Gradebook Declarations each week, I remote-host the content: Canvas meets <a href=\"https:\/\/indieweb.org\/POSSE\">POSSE<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/grading\/points-based-grading-choices-not-zeroes\/\">Points-Based Grading: Choices, not Zeroes<\/a>. I am glad that in the Canvas Gradebook a blank really\u00a0<em>is<\/em> a blank, not a zero.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Openness, Sharing, and Connectedness<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/writing\/fall-semester-blog-success\/\">Fall Semester: Blog Success<\/a><\/strong>. The Fall semester is over, and having this new blog is one of my semester&#8217;s successes.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/connecting\/connectedness\/\">Connectedness<\/a>. This is my grateful response to Jesse Stommel&#8217;s blog post about Creative Online Educators.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/lms\/open-content-resources-not-courses\/\">Open Content: Resources, not Courses<\/a>.\u00a0A warning about the dangers of putting content into LMS course spaces.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/open\/go-open-with-canvas\/\">Go Open with Canvas<\/a>. Canvas, unlike\u00a0D2L, has some open options, which is my main interest in our switch from D2L to Canvas.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/lms\/canvas-for-open-syllabuses\/\">Canvas for Open Syllabuses<\/a>. Canvas makes it easy to open up your syllabus so students and other faculty can learn about the class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Canvas Class Announcements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/announcements\/10\/\">The Power of Random Cats<\/a>. I used random cats to promote\u00a0growth mindset in my Canvas announcements blog.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/time-management\/new-countdown-widget-on-homepage\/\">New Countdown Widget on Homepage<\/a>. I created a new &#8220;__ days left in the semester&#8221; widget for my Canvas announcements blog.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/announcements\/maati-baani-in-my-canvas-homepage\/\">Maati Baani in my Canvas Homepage<\/a>. I like to share\u00a0videos with students via my Canvas announcements blog&#8230; and Maati Baani is great for my India class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Some Practical Canvas Advice<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/time-management\/advice-use-the-canvas-grace-period\/\">Use the Canvas \u201cGrace Period.<\/a>\u201d\u00a0Having a two-deadline option in Canvas allows me to create a grace period for all assignments (D2L did not).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/advice\/advice-keep-canvas-modules-current\/\">Keep Canvas Modules Current<\/a>. It just takes a minute to keep your module list up-to-date. I make it a weekly routine!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/advice\/advice-use-a-course-image\/\">Use a Course Image<\/a>. Instead of a (boring) colored block, you can choose to display an image on your Dashboard course card.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/advice\/advice-course-images-and-flickr\/\">Course Images and Flickr<\/a>. Not sure what image to use? You can choose your course card image by searching Flickr inside Canvas!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/domains\/think-before-you-link-creating-a-canvas-url\/\">Think Before You Link: Creating a Canvas URL<\/a>. To create continuity from semester to semester, you can create a URL for each course you teach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Posts about\u00a0Students<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/lms\/student-tech-support-for-canvas\/\">Student Tech Support for Canvas<\/a>. Based on student feedback, these are the Canvas features I am supporting and promoting: Calendar, Notifications, Profile, and Mobile App.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/students\/student-voices-about-canvas\/\">Student Voices about Canvas<\/a>. These are the\u00a0results\u00a0of my Fall 2016 mid-semester student survey, with lots of advice from students for instructors using Canvas.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/meta-learning\/time-management-brainstorms\/\">Time Management Brainstorms<\/a>. I got some big ideas from an ILED studio session on helping students with time management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Posts about\u00a0Instructors<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/connecting\/big-canvas-new-for-spring\/\">Big Canvas News for Spring<\/a>. Instead of being opt-in for Spring, we are going to be opt-out. I hope this blog can be useful for faculty who will start using Canvas.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/connecting\/moving-from-marketing-to-conversation\/\">Moving from Marketing to Conversation<\/a>. In addition to student voices about Canvas, we need faculty voices too.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/canvas.lauragibbs.net\/wpblog\/lms\/how-instructors-dont-use-the-lms\/\">How Instructors (Don\u2019t) Use the LMS<\/a>.
